Divination & Meditation
AUTOMATISM
Automatism is the practice of giving up conscious control of what you're doing. This practice is completely natural and feels like going with the flow, or getting in the zone of what you're doing.
By doing this, you are separating your mind from your body ever so slightly. This is pulling your Plexus body from your Solar body. So, the Solar body takes control of what the physical body is doing and expresses images from the Solar, the Phoenix. This is the opposite of hallucinating, which expresses images from the Plexus body, the Serpent.
As hallucinations can be caused by mental focus, physical hallucinations can be expressed using physical focus. This focus can maintained by forfeiting control over that focus, allowing your physical, Solar body to make the decisions for you. You have to trust the process, but it can be less than safe.
By separating from the Solar body, and this applies to astral projection as well, you introduce your space and systems to outside entities that are Plexus separated from Solar. Like you, in that state. So, the undead, disembodied, tulpas, fae and so on. This can lead to, in extreme circumstances, possession and full body manifestation. Tread lightly if this is something you're not confident in handling.
Listening to music and other environmental factors can affect the results, much like the effects they they have on the subconscious mind, cellular memory or solar memory. It affects the results like it does the mind's symbology, so symbols or motifs may appear.
It is recommended to do multiple at once, and to have someone else do a batch as well so that the results may be compared. This can help you understand what the subject of the reading really is as well as the interferences that are at play. This is an excellent way to read a room or situation as well.
Treat this practice with respect and approach it with as little intention as possible. You are doing this to witness and observe, and you are privileged to be able to do so with your unique position. The more space you give this, the more results you will find. The more you treasure those results, the more you will find. And, the more respect you give, all the more information will be given to you.
Be careful, and have fun. This is moving meditation. This is also a great way to record spiritual progress. Automatic drawing, painting and writing are personal favorites, however you can do this with just about anything. Do not drive or operate machinery in meditative states. Avoid sharp objects. This is your warning and we are not responsible for your actions.
BIBLIOMANCY
Bibliomancy is a great way to divine specific, detailed information. The more you put into this, the more you'll get out of it. I suggest designing some sort of ritual or type of arrangement to amplify the effects of the divining.
Things like lighting candles that match the book colors, arranging ritual objects around your workspace, saying a blessing or prayer beforehand, wearing ritual clothing while you work, including talismans or guardians to work alongside you, eating enchanted food or drinking potions, summoning spirits or tulpas, pretty much anything you can think of that will inspire the magick within you.
The method of reading is pretty straightforward. Flip to a random page and point. What you point to is the result. This could be (and usually is) very straightforward, or you may need to read the entire section to understand the context, especially with text looks.
I've found it most useful to use multiple books. With six, you can roll a dice to choose which book to ask the next question. With more than six, you can use a pendulum or other device to choose which to read from. It is advised to ask as many questions as possible and record detailed notes of the results to compare later on. Most importantly, follow your gut, don't be afraid to make mistakes and have fun!
CONCENTRATIONS
Object concentration is meditating while staying at a physical object. You want to pull your entire focus onto the object, not letting your eyes or mind wander. Try that resist the mind's attempts to distort what you are seeing. This meditation trains your gaze and can be used to extract information from just about anything.
Sound concentration is holding a sound, mantra or word in your mind, forcing it to drown out your other thoughts. This can be used to charge the target to make things like sigils, words of power or spells from your concentration. This can also help teach you to train your focus into one thing for enchantments, banishing, you name it.
Image concentration is achieved by holding an image in your mind for as long as possible. Even a few seconds can be an achievement. You should start with simple shapes, then move on to more complex subjects. This can lead to visual effects like hallucinations that can eventually be visually cast onto surfaces. This is useful for casting things like runes or sigils, or for scrying. This causes closed eye visuals to persist overtime.
CLOSED EYE VISUALS
What Are Closed Eye Visuals?
Closed eye visuals, closed eye hallucinations, Prisoner's Cinema and what I like to call Mystic's Cinema is a visual phenomenon. This normally happens automatically after a long period of visual sensory deprivation.
The amount of time it takes to reach an intense stage of this varies from person to person, and normally needs to be continuous to move into deeper phases. After long periods of exposure over time, they become more prominent and admittedly difficult to ignore.
They will start by manifesting while staring with your eyes closed, or by staring in the dark or on a blank surface for long periods of time. After long periods of exposure overtime, these hallucinations become more prominent and can interfere with your normal vision. I would bet that, if taken too far this would overlay your vision pretty consistently. Screw that.
What Do You See?
Closed eye hallucinations come in different stages or levels of intensity. These can all happen naturally, or they can be induced through meditation or deprivation. Some medical conditions cause similar (if not the same) effects.
I will list each stage of closed eye visualization here. Do not forget that the more time you spend in any particular stage, the more it will occur without your induction.
This list is from my personal experiences from my own perspective. Do not rely on it as a complete account or understanding. You can research these things on your own to see different and more standard interpretations of the stages of CEV's.
Phase 0: Void
This phase is more of a baseline but does deserve it's own category. This is what you will see first, if you don't always have visual static or something further already there.
You can transition to and from this stage with practice and discipline, although it can be seemingly impossible at times. This phase can be reached from a further stage by distracting yourself, mostly. Scattering your energy in a way to a point where no visual effects are made. Thinking of so many things that only a void sits before you.
Doing this can teach you to do this in life as well, as a way to protect your energy. You're leaving it in such a state of chaos that entities or otherwise usually won't even attempt to occupy your attention.
Phase 1: Static
This is the first visual phase. It should be mentioned that these "stages" are only vaguely chronological. Some may be skipped over, others may happen simultaneously. Some may happen constantly, others occasionally. Each experience is unique. These stages are my general understanding of how the visualizations progress.
You want to start in a dark room, preferably comfortable and relaxed. This will help you see the visualizations more clearly. They usually start with a visual static first.
To reach this state, turn your attention to the void before you. Try to perceive the void with a 3D gaze in a way, as if looking at something in the room. This is a way to tune-in to the energy around you, like adjusting a 3D channel to reach a 2D signal. This should manifest quite quickly, but for some it may take several minutes to reach this phase.
Phase 2: Lights
After holding your attention on the static phase you should start to see further phases begin to manifest. I personally see lights most often to begin with, but phase 3 is a close second. If you're having trouble seeing much after the static phase, try focusing in on one spot. This also helps develop a Magician's Gaze, an unwavering eye that can extract all sorts of spiritual information here and elsewhere.
Training your gaze can also help keep you from automatically looking at something as it enters your visual field. This can help you observe things or entities that may vanish if looked at directly. As you gaze into the static a light show may appear. This can manifest in beams, streaks, orbs, bursts, waves, dots, clusters etc. or what seems to be stars which is what I see most often.
Focus on watching these lights either directly or from the corners of your visual field. Practice and experiment with your focus and level of depth perception to try to hold the images longer. This will cause the other phases to happen on their own. This will also help you learn valuable and powerful skills that can be translated to scrying, dreaming or observing things in everyday life.
Phase 3: Fog
I personally have this stage right before the later stages. This can look like fog, smoke or ectoplasm in my experiences. This appears without colors and this black and white haze will more than likely stay for the remainder of your meditation.
Other phases seem to come from it as well, like shapes or forms. You would have a more difficult time stopping the experience after passing this point.
If you see this fog when it's unwarranted, try to occupy yourself or to reach void as quickly as possible to attempt to stop the experience. Well lit rooms can also halt the progression.
Phase 4: Colors
After watching the fog for anywhere from seconds to minutes, colors will most likely begin to appear. They may come in waves, wisps, pulsating blobs, stars, or can even cover your visual field. You may even see colorful lights.
Pay attention to which colors appear. Think about what they mean to you and about how they may reflect your thoughts or energy. I personally see them as the different colors of raw magick. Pay attention to the movements of them and the fog. Treat this as a sort of vision and take the results seriously to achieve more with this practice.
Keep in mind that you are seeing energy, though. A literal interpretation can be an injustice towards any of these visualizations. Think of this as similar to dreaming or astral travel. You may not be able to trust what you see, but you can trust the fact that it is manifesting something that could interest you or require your attention. Analyzing behaviour is more productive in my experience than getting caught up in the imagery.
Phase 5: Shapes
This phase is one that is usually gone quite quickly once phase 6 or later occurs. However, there are times that this stage can take a front seat for the remainder of the meditation. The shapes are usually small and may or may not follow the center of your vision. Most are simply outlines seemingly made of light, but not all are this way.
Many advanced shapes or geometry may also be in the center of other shapes or geometry. I often see them surrounding the center shape in stacked rotating rings, much like I would image it would look if you visually penetrated a higher or lower dimension. I'm tempted to say this is seeing the second dimension, if such a thing exists.
Seeing these particular patterns has a steep feeling of taboo to it, at least for me. I generally experience downloads or upgrades during or afterward as well. These rotating symbols seem to communicate directly with deeper parts of myself without my consent so I generally avoid them if I can. They can cause progress that I don't feel ready for. Remember though, everything happens for a reason and accept the gifts you're given.
Phase 6: Figures
This phase will sometimes occur directly following the fog phase, especially once you've gotten used to the practice in general. I have very rarely seen them in color.
Usually they appear from the fog, black or white depending on which they came from. These in particular typically stay along the fog they came from until retreating back into it. The others are typically ones that are seemingly made of light. They tend to be small and distant much like the shapes apparent in phase 5. They are usually white but can occasionally be in color.
Disembodied faces can sometimes appear and disappear. Another common figure I've seen is pure black with a vague silhouette shape and eyes that look like two distant stars. These will sometimes try to test your bravery by coming up to you. They may even get right in your face! They seem harmless though and tend to run off quickly if you match their gaze.
Phase 7: Interactions
This phase is more of a transition into phase 8, but it is worth it's own category. I have also reached this phase and skipped from it directly into phase 9.
In this phase, the figures, colors, smoke or shapes that have begun to manifest start to interact with each other. Things start to act in a more orderly or material fashion. Things may even start interacting with you!
Generally, this stage involves watching more figures appear and interact. Shapes may begin to affect their surroundings. You might even perceive more depth or space before you. This allows you to observe more at once. I've even seen rooms, lakes, buildings or landscapes appear, although they normally tend to disappear when looked at directly much like most of the entities you'll encounter.
Phase 8: Stories
After the elements if your visualization begin to interact, stories and scenes will begin to appear. These are usually from the fog but could potentially involve anything.
For me, this stage can also include flashes of images or people in complete detail. This can also include strings of information like letters, numbers or other symbols or sigils. Focus on the context, not the content.
A lot of the scenes you'll see last seconds long and will vanish if you look directly at them. The scenes may tie together to form stories or may seem completely unrelated. They seem to play on your subconscious mind which can cause them to seem violent or scary. This isn't to scare you and is more of a test of character, I think. To make sure you're ready to see what it has to show you, and to show you the limit of your courage or resolve to allow you to surpass these limits.
Phase 9: Transition
This is the last phase I've personally experienced and involves the CEV's transitioning into another event. I have had my sessions transition into dreaming, astral travel, visions, trance states, upgrades, downloads or even just seemingly blacking out. I won't beat around the bush here, each instance was terrifying to me. However, each experience has been very valuable to me.
Usually it begins as something appears in phase 8 and interrupts the cinema, usually appearing in the center. I've mostly seen shapes do this, but lights or figures can do this as well. Spirals are also common. A common thing I've seen is having shadow figures waving goodbye as you leave normal consciousness for another state.
In my experience, as this happens it locks your vision to a single central point. You become unable to look away. As the transition happens I've also felt my stomach sink like I'm falling, or I'll start to feel weightless. I lose feeling of the physical world around me as well. I have no idea why this transition happens but it seems to always if I stay in phase 7 or 8 for too long, or if the visuals are particularly intense. If you have any guesses let me know!
Scrying With CEH's
This is probably my favorite aspect of this practice. This is done very similarly to other scrying practices so any background in these areas should translate well.
The trick is, closed eye hallucinations are more than likely an aspect of your mind. They come from within. This isn't exactly obvious until you start experimenting with them.
Talk to what you see. In your mind, of course. Ask it questions. It can all seem pretty chaotic at first. Treat this space like a dimension in your mind. It is up to you to apply order and to find a way to use these faculties.
My method has evolved over time but is still fairly new and limited. What answers you get visually depends on the meaning you've assigned to each thing or situation. It is best to assign meanings to simple symbols or colors for your divination.
Leaving the visualizing part of yourself to decide on meanings can lead to vague or misleading answers. You need to pick things that come to you easily during your own visualizations so that you can reach a near instant response time.
You can always test different selections by saying things like "show me yes" or "show me danger" or whatever else you want in a symbol for reading. Play around and aim for simplicity if you can. This way you won't need to meditate and reach deeper stages unnecessarily. For more abstract readings without symbols, remember to pay attention moreso to context than content.
P.S.
We fear the unknown for a damn good reason. If we don't exactly know why or how something thinks or operates, how could we keep ourselves safe involving ourselves with it? You can't.
Nobody, and I mean nobody has a full picture of what's happening to us. Especially while we experiment with things like this. There is no explanation available for you. There is no safety in diving into unknown territory.
You can only rely on your experiences while taking the experiences of others into account, with a grain of salt of course. All experience is limited. For a reason.
If you want to push past fear, the solution is to learn enough about something to be comfortable with trust instead. This is rewarding yet inherently dangerous. You are always starting in a place of ignorance and you have to understand that to grow.
If you're unable to trust, you are obligated to live in fear and to embrace it equally as a teacher and tool, lest you be consumed by it. As always, trust your instincts and trust your outcomes if you can. Let yourself guide you through the darkness. Or, stay in your comfort which is much better for most people. Do what you feel is right and you can't do much wrong!
